Hello & welcome.
I’m currently living in Brighton & would describe myself as an artist/maker with a passion for reusing & recycling redundant objects. In particular paper, & find its qualities fascinating. It’s delicate yet strong sculptural characteristics make it a fantastic versatile material to work with. For me, paper has so many different uses practically for writing, drawing, printing, etc. & poetically when I think about old books & their wonderful tactile quality & smell. I love the notion of writing being a silent voice, its poetic attributes often communicating & describing, a thought, idea or whisper from a moment/passage in a person’s life. I enjoy the process of splicing words, either together or individually, bringing them to the forefront to give them a sense of relevance to the new shape they occupy. I would hope anyone seeing my work will question what it was originally & perhaps inquire about the concept of reinventing a seemingly waste material.
The handmade papercuttings/papersculptures I produce are made from redundant or broken old books, magazines & newspapers that would otherwise be discarded. My objective is to turn yesterday’s news and information into something a little more timeless.
